Today in Weather History .... (1940) Florida endured a 3 day long freeze with the lowest temperatures ever in January at Mason, FL as they dropped to 8°. 11 million boxes of citrus were damaged, resulting in a $10 million dollar loss. Georgia’s lowest temperature ever occurred on this date near Calhoun with a reading of -17°.
